The Battery Conservancy was founded to bring a new vision, focused resources, and design excellence to The Battery following a period of decline in the late 20th century. The transformation of the park tells the history of New York and the growth and development of our nation.
Currently, two major projects are in development, The Battery Playscape and The Castle at The Battery。
Inspired by climate, sea, and wind, The Battery Playscape will triple the size of the existing playground. This horticultural haven will serve as a global exemplar of sustainable and climate-resilient playground design. The 1.5-acre Playscape will improve the quality of life for the growing number of Lower Manhattan families as well as for students in local schools by enhancing and expanding much-needed secure play space.
The Castle at The Battery is an extraordinary model of adaptive reuse, playing many roles over the centuries。 The Castle was saved from demolition to become a national monument and now serves as the ticketing hub for visitors to The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island。 In partnership with the National Park Service (NPS), The Battery Conservancy is designing a renewed Castle, returning the landmark to its former glory as a cultural attraction。
